2009 Hands On Greenville Day (H.O.G. Day)

H.O.G. Day is the largest day of service for the state of South Carolina and it’s big! On Saturday, May 2, 2009, Hands On Greenville will celebrate 15 years of volunteerism.
Volunteers will spread throughout Greenville and surrounding areas to repair cabins at campgrounds for Hog Daythe disabled, paint playground equipment and murals at our public schools, landscape the grounds of local shelters, and beautify nearby state and city parks. Companies large and small create teams to participate and reap the benefits of teamwork, camaraderie and the feeling of making a difference.

Everyone is welcome!
Attendance is expected to be more than 4,000 volunteers from Greenville's corporations, churches, schools, and professional and civic organizations. Teams of friends and other individuals will also be formed. This event is “family friendly” as children as young as 8 years old can attend, accompanied by a parent or other adult.

When: H.O.G. Day will took place on Saturday, May 2, 2009. Followed by a thank you celebration and lunch held at Fluor Field in Downtown Greenville.

Where: Service projects for H.O.G. Day will take place at approximately 90 sites throughout Greenville County, including emergency shelters, public schools, group homes, playgrounds, parks, food banks, and soup kitchens.

Hands On Greenville Day has three goals:
• To provide 12,000 hours of community service in a single day
• To raise funds to help Hands On Greenville continue its year-round mission of creating meaningful volunteer opportunities
• To promote the spirit of volunteerism and demonstrate the power of community service.

There is where we worked at:
Child Care Resource & Referral of Upstate SC (CCR&R), a program of United Way’s Success By 6®, promotes the affordability and availability of quality child care services through our partnerships with parents, child care providers, businesses, and community organizations. We are a member of the South Carolina Child Care Resource & Referral Network and funded in part by the South Carolina Department of Social Services’ Child Care Division.

When parents are challenged by their ever-changing needs – jobs/work schedules, financial constraints, relocation hassles or transportation problems – it often affects their child care situations. We provide parents with child care referrals and information on “how to choose” and evaluate quality child care, plus resources on various parenting issues. Child care is a very important family decision and our goal is to help parents make the best child care choices for their children.

CCR&R offers child care providers access to valuable trainings, technical assistance, and supplies to increase the quality of care.

United Way Success by 6®, Child Care Resource & Referral of Upstate SC proudly serves the following counties: Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Greenwood, Lancaster, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, Union, & York.
